A Dubai martial arts club spent USD 3,000 on Google Ads and is invisible on Google. AI names it for free.
A martial arts club in Dubai (a site we built; name withheld) spent about USD 3,000 on Google Ads. On 5 October 2026 we checked both channels the same day: where the club stands on Google for the question its ads were buying, and how often the four main AI engines name it when asked the questions its buyers ask. We built the site, so we publish the losses alongside the wins.
Google, "best martial arts club in Dubai"
About USD 3,000 spent on ads. The only paid result on the page belongs to a competitor. The club is in none of the lists Google shows.

The money went where the club is weakest. The free channel is where it is strongest.
Why Google lost
Google answers the generic question from directories and round-ups, and the club is not listed in any of them. An ad is the only way onto that page, and it disappears the moment the budget does.
Why AI named it
The AI engines answer the specific kickboxing questions by reading the club's site itself. The site is cited as a source, ChatGPT names the club on four of the five questions, and when the club is named it is second on average. The website is doing the job the ads were paid to do.
What moves it next
The generic question is lost on every channel for the same reason: the club is absent from the Dubai listings that Google and the engines both read (Property Finder, ClassPass, Time Out). Getting listed there is the lever for that question, and for Claude and Perplexity, which lean on independent pages rather than the club's own.
What this does not prove
There was no reading before the site was built, so this page does not claim the site work caused the AI naming; it shows what the site is doing today against what the ads bought. One reading is evidence. The four-week re-check, early November, decides direction, and goes on this page either way.
The AI answer check asks your buyers' questions to four engines and shows who gets named instead of you. Before you buy another ad.
Method: Instly AI answer check, five questions written from the club's own positioning (kickboxing, its district, kids, teens and adults, competition team), put to ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity with web search on, 5 Oct 2026. Google record from Chrome in Bangkok with a UAE location flag; results vary by device and location. The club's site was built by Instly. The USD 3,000 ad spend figure is the club's own.
